CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke sophomore forward Toby Fournier has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Stanford forward Lara Somfai earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for games played February 2-8.
ACC women’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by member schools and determined by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
PLAYER – Toby Fournier, So., F, Duke (Toronto, Ontario)
- Averaged 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals while shooting 64.3 percent (18-for-28) from the field in wins over No. 6 Louisville and SMU last week.
- Narrowly missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds in Thursday’s 59-58 win at Louisville, securing the top spot in the ACC standings.
- Shot 75.0 percent (12-for-16) from the field and finished with a game-high 26 points in Sunday’s 95-36 win over SMU, helping extend the Blue Devils’ winning streak to 15 straight victories.
- The 20-point effort was her fifth of the season, tied for the third-most in the ACC this year.
ROOKIE – Lara Somfai, Fr., F, Stanford (Mór, Hungary)
- Averaged 17.0 points, 16.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists during Stanford’s road trip to Pitt and Georgia Tech.
- Scored 15 points and pulled down 23 rebounds in the Cardinal’s 86-65 victory over Pitt on Thursday, as her 23 rebounds are the most by a freshman in league history and the most by an ACC player since Virginia’s Sarah Imovbioh recorded 24 against Ohio State on November 14, 2014.
- Also added eight assists, two steals and three blocks against the Panthers, becoming just the second player in NCAA Division I since 2002-03 to post that stat line and the only freshman to do so.
