UNC’s Raio, Hagerup Earn ACC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina freshman midfielder Anthony Raio claimed Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Tar Heel defensive midfielder Leif Hagerup earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from March 9-15.
 
Four ACC teams are ranked among the top eight in the latest USILA Coaches poll, led by Notre Dame at No. 1 for the fourth straight week. North Carolina is No. 5, Duke is No. 6 and Syracuse is No. 8.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Anthony Raio, Fr., M, North Carolina (Dix Hills, New York)
• Posted three goals in the Tar Heels’ 10-8 victory over No. 9 Penn State on Saturday, March 14, in a neutral-site matchup in Charlotte, North Carolina.
• The effort was his first career hat trick, and the first multi-goal game of his young career.
• This marked the Tar Heels’ first win over a top-10 foe this season.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Leif Hagerup, Sr., M, North Carolina (Washington, D.C.)
• Recorded five caused turnovers and a ground ball in the Tar Heels’ victory over No. 9 Penn State.
• His total five caused turnovers was a career best, as UNC recorded a season-high 11 caused turnovers as a team.
• In securing its first top-10 win of the season, UNC is now 6-0 this season when allowing single-digit goals.
