Notre Dame’s Hidalgo, Syracuse’s Izoje Named ACC Women’s Basketball Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame junior guard Hannah Hidalgo has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Syracuse center Uche Izoje earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for games played during the final week of the regular season.

ACC women’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by member schools and determined by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.

PLAYER – Hannah Hidalgo, Jr., G, Notre Dame (Merchantville, New Jersey)
  • Averaged 28.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 6.0 steals in a pair of ACC wins last week.
  • Registered 27 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and seven steals in Thursday’s 72-62 victory over Syracuse, becoming just the second player in Division I to post those numbers in a game this season.
  • Tallied 30 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals in Sunday’s upset win over No. 10 Louisville.
  • The 30-point effort was her ninth this season, which leads the ACC.

ROOKIE – Uche Izoje, Fr., C, Syracuse (Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria)
  • Averaged 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in a pair of ACC matchups last week.
  • Posted 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks against Notre Dame on Thursday.
  • Recorded a game-high 24 points with 12 rebounds and three blocks in Sunday’s 90-65 victory over Boston College.
  • With her 12 boards against the Eagles, she broke head coach Felisha Legette-Jack’s freshman record at Syracuse with 259 rebounds this season.

Women’s Basketball Notes
  • ACC teams have played 31 non-conference games against teams ranked in the Associated Press (AP) Poll (32 against teams ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll), the most among peer power conferences.
  • A total of 12 ACC teams are in the latest NET Top 60, tied for the second most of any conference. Duke (No. 10), Louisville (No. 13), North Carolina (No. 19), NC State (No. 23) and Notre Dame (No. 24) are currently inside the top 25.
  • Three teams are currently ranked in the AP Top 25: Louisville (No. 12), Duke (No. 13) and North Carolina (No. 16). NC State and Notre Dame are receiving votes.
