CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia senior attackman Truitt Sunderland earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while North Carolina junior faceoff specialist Brady Wambach and Syracuse defenseman Riley Figueiras shared ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from March 16-22.
Four ACC teams are ranked among the top seven squads in the latest USILA Coaches poll, led by Notre Dame at No. 1 for the fifth straight week. Duke is No. 4, North Carolina is No. 5 and Syracuse is No. 7.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Truitt Sunderland, Sr., A, Virginia (Baltimore, Maryland)
• Tied his career high with six goals to lead UVA in a 16-11 win over Utah on Saturday, March 21.
• Tied for the second-most goals by an ACC player in a game this season.
• He currently ranks second in the ACC in goals per game (3.00) and is tied for fifth in points per game (4.00).
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Brady Wambach, Jr., FO, North Carolina (Pittsford, New York)
• Went 21-27 at the faceoff X on Saturday in the win versus No. 19 Army, adding 16 ground balls.
• Posted 17-straight faceoff wins, his third game this season with 20-or-more faceoff wins.
• His total of 16 ground balls was one shy of the program record, also set by Wambach this season.
• Also scored a goal, his fifth goal of the season.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Riley Figueiras, Sr., D, Syracuse (Sunderland, Maryland)
• Had a solid week on the backline, as the Orange grabbed a pair of top 15 wins at No. 14 Denver and at home against No. 13 Georgetown.
• Against the Hoyas, Figueiras marked Rory Connor, the nation's leading goal-scorer entering the game. Connor scored a season-low two goals, only one of which was with Figueiras marked on him.
• Totaled seven groundballs over two games.
• Caused three turnovers in the win over Georgetown.
