Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse Earn Berths in 2026 NCAA Championship Weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Three Atlantic Coast Conference teams have advanced to the NCAA’s Championship Weekend following quarterfinal wins in the NCAA Tournament this weekend. No. 2 seed Notre Dame, No. 6 seed Syracuse and unseeded Duke advanced and will compete in the national semifinals on Saturday, May 23, at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
 
The ACC has three teams competing in the NCAA’s Championship Weekend for the sixth time in league history (2005, 2011, 2014, 2021, 2023).
 
On Saturday, May 16, in Hempstead, New York, Notre Dame pulled away from Johns Hopkins, 15-9, to earn its third Championship Weekend appearance in the last four years. In the second game, Syracuse topped No. 3 seed North Carolina, 15-11, to claim its second straight Championship Weekend berth.
 
Duke made it a trio of ACC teams in Championship Weekend on Sunday, May 17, with a dominating 16-6 victory over Georgetown.
 
The Blue Devils play top-seeded Princeton at noon ET on Saturday and Syracuse faces Notre Dame at 2:30 p.m. ESPN2 will broadcast the semifinal doubleheader. The winners square off in the national championship game on Monday, May 25, at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.
 
Josh Yago finished with a season-high seven points off four goals and three assists as Notre Dame (12-2) broke away after halftime and rolled to the win over Johns Hopkins. Matt Jeffery had a big performance, totaling five points off two goals and three assists.
 
Syracuse (13-5) scored five of the game’s final six goals to break away late in its win over ACC rival North Carolina (13-5). Joey Spallina recorded a hat trick and also handed out three assists. Orange faceoff specialist John Mullen had a big day, winning 13-of-24 faceoffs. Dominic Pietramala led UNC with a pair of goals and an assist.
 
Max Sloat scored four goals and added an assist to lead Duke (11-4) to the national semifinals for the 16th time in program history. Benn Johnston added a hat trick, while goalie Buck Cunningham made 10 saves.
 
At least one current ACC member team has advanced to the national semifinals in 45 of the last 47 tournaments. The five active ACC teams have combined for 27 national championships, including 11 of the last 17.
