ACC Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Mia Minestrella and Stanford’s Charlotte Kohler were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Wake Forest defender Sierra Sythe was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for ACC Women’s Soccer. Syracuse’s Maya Naimoli was named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Week, while Miami striker Zoie Fontenot was named the ACC Freshman of the Week for matches played August 17-23.

CO-OFFENSIVE – Mia Minestrella, Sr., F, Duke (Redondo Beach, California)
  • Totaled five goals in Duke’s pair of victories over FIU and Rhode Island last week.
  • Tallied two goals in Duke’s 4-0 win over the Panthers.
  • Recorded the ACC’s second hat trick of the season in a 6-1 triumph over the Rams.
  • Currently leads the ACC with six goals and moved into fifth place in program history with 36.

CO-OFFENSIVE – Charlotte Kohler, Jr., M/F, Stanford (Woodside, California)
  • Registered two goals and two assists in Stanford’s wins over No. 14 Georgetown and UC Irvine.
  • Posted a goal and an assist in the Cardinal’s 2-0 victory over the nationally ranked Hoyas.
  • Scored her third goal of the season and added her second assist in a 6-0 rout of UC Irvine.
  • One of only seven players in the ACC with eight or more points this season.

DEFENSIVE – Sierra Sythe, Jr., D, Wake Forest (Long Beach, California)
  • Played the full 180 minutes last week and helped the Demon Deacons record their third and fourth shutouts of the season in victories over Iowa and Old Dominion.
  • Helped hold Iowa scoreless after the Hawkeyes had outscored their opponents 12-0 entering Thursday’s match.
  • Helped limit Old Dominion to just three shots on goal in Friday’s 1-0 victory.
  • Scored the game-winning goal against the Monarchs on a free kick from outside the box for her first goal of the season.

GOALKEEPER – Maya Naimoli, Jr., GK, Syracuse (Wayne, Pennsylvania)
  • Totaled seven saves while leading Syracuse to wins over Northwestern and Princeton.
  • Made two stops in the road victory over Northwestern on Thursday.
  • Recorded a season-high five saves for her third clean sheet of the season in the Orange’s 3-0 win over Princeton.
  • Her 0.25 goals against average currently ranks third in the ACC.

FRESHMAN – Zoie Fontenot, Fr., F, Miami (Long Beach, California)
  • Scored a goal in each of Miami’s non-conference victories last week.
  • Opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the Hurricanes’ 3-0 road win at Little Rock on Thursday.
  • Scored the game-winning goal with one second remaining in a 1-0 victory at Lipscomb.
  • Currently leads all ACC freshmen with three goals this season.

Women’s Soccer Notes
  • ACC teams earned 42 victories through the first two weeks of the season.
  • ACC teams are 29-3-8 (.825) in home matches this season.
  • ACC teams combined to score 158 goals through the first two weeks of the season, the most among all conferences.
  • ACC teams have earned a result in 13 of their 19 matches against peer power-conference opponents this season (seven wins, six ties).
