ACC Names Cross Country Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Victoria Garces and Sundara Weber picked up the weekly honors for the ACC Women’s Cross Country Performer and Freshman of the Week, respectively. On the men’s side, Syracuse’s Benne Anderson was named the ACC Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week and North Carolina’s Caden Leonard garnered his second ACC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week award.
 
ACC MEN’S PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Benne Anderson, Sr., Syracuse (Allendale, Michigan)
  • Was Syracuse’s top finisher and placed third overall at the Princeton Meadows Challenge 8k with a time of 23:11.2.
  • The Orange came in second place with 67 points, just behind No. 4 Alabama with 42 points.
 
ACC MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Caden Leonard, Fr., North Carolina (Southlake, Texas)
  • Was one of two Tar Heels to place in the top 20 at the Meadows Challenge.
  • Recorded a time of 23:37.8 in his first collegiate 8k.
  • Aided in North Carolina’s fifth-place team finish.
 
ACC WOMEN’S PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Victoria Garces, So., Duke (Midland, Michigan)
  • Finished second at the Princeton Meadows Challenge with a 6k personal-best time of 19:43.1.
  • Broke the 20-minute mark for the first time in her career and bested her 6k PR by 31 seconds.
 
ACC WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Sundara Weber, Fr., Duke (Sandwich, Illinois)
  • Turned heads in her collegiate debut, clocking a 6k time of 20:09 for 11th place at the Princeton Meadows Challenge.
  • Was the top freshman finisher among the 181 competitors in the race, helping Duke to a fourth-place finish as a team.
