CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt sophomore Adi Bianchin was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Wake Forest defender Sierra Sythe was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for ACC Women’s Soccer. Florida State sophomore Kate Ockene was named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Week, while SMU striker Julianne Richter was named the ACC Freshman of the Week for matches played August 31–September 6.
OFFENSIVE – Adi Bianchin, So., F, Pitt (Oakville, Ontario, Canada)
- Scored five of the team’s six goals last week in a pair of shutout wins at Ohio (3-0) and against Dayton (3-0).
- Scored twice, including her first collegiate goal, in Thursday’s 3-0 road win at Ohio.
- Registered her first collegiate hat trick on Sunday in a 3-0 blanking of Dayton.
- Currently leads the team with five goals and 12 points this season.
DEFENSIVE – Sierra Sythe, Jr., D, Wake Forest (Long Beach, California)
- Led the backline to a pair of non-conference road victories over USF (3-0) on Thursday and No. 21 Florida (2-1) on Sunday.
- Converted a penalty kick and helped limit USF to just three shots.
- The clean sheet against the Bulls was Wake Forest’s sixth straight to open the season.
- Converted on her second penalty kick of the week and later scored off a corner in the Demon Deacons’ 2-1 win over the nationally-ranked Gators.
- Helped limit Florida to just two shots on goal over 90 minutes.
GOALKEEPER – Kate Ockene, So., GK, Florida State (Sandy, Utah)
- Totaled 11 saves in a win at No. 25 Georgia on Thursday and a draw against Rice on Sunday.
- Made three saves in the Seminoles’ win at No. 25 Georgia, as the Bulldogs attempted 18 shots.
- Stopped eight shots, one shy of her career high, to help FSU earn a 1-1 draw against Rice.
- Currently ranks second in the ACC with 3.6 saves per game.
FRESHMAN – Julianne Richter, F, Fr., SMU (Temecula, California)
- Scored a goal in each of SMU’s matches last week.
- Tallied the 74th-minute equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Texas Tech on Thursday.
- Recorded a goal and two assists in the Mustangs’ 6-0 rout of Idaho State on Sunday.
- Currently leads the team with six assists this season.
Women’s Soccer Notes
- The ACC’s 81 victories and .792 winning percentage are the best among all conferences.
- Entering the week, ACC teams have earned a result in 10 of their 12 matchups against ranked opponents, posting a 6-2-4 (.667) record.
