ACC Names Cross Country Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson freshman Nancy Cherop was named both the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week and Freshman of the Week. Syracuse sophomore Charles Guerrera and Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore Roan Kelly were tabbed as ACC Men’s Cross Country Co-Performers of the Week, while Virginia Tech’s Robert Leonard earned ACC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week honors.
 
ACC MEN’S CO-PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Charles Guerrera, So., Syracuse (Dublin, Ohio)
  • Won the Harry Lang Invitational with a 6K time of 18:44.9, four seconds ahead of second-place finisher and teammate Asher Danielson.
  • Paced the Syracuse team to sweep the first through fifth-place positions and a team first-place finish.
  • Finished more than a minute ahead of any opponent.
 
ACC MEN’S CO-PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Roan Kelly, R-So., Virginia Tech (Randolph, N.Y.)
  • Won the Virginia Tech Invitational with a 5.8K time of 18:11.6.
  • The mark also doubled as a personal-best mark.
  • Led the Hokies to a first-place finish as a team.
 
ACC MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Robert Leonard, Fr., Virginia Tech (Alexandria, Va.)
  • Took second-place in his collegiate debut, cross the finish line in 18:12.8 for the 5.8K.
  • Finished just one second behind teammate Roan Kelly, who won the Hokie Invitational.
 
ACC WOMEN’S PERFORMER AND FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Nancy Cherop, Fr., Clemson (Mount Elgon, Kenya)
  • Won the Eye Opener with a 5K time of 16:24.6, which broke the meet record.
  • Crossed the finish line 18 seconds before the runner-up, her teammate Silvia Jelelgo.
  • Finished the race 40 seconds before the first non-Clemson runner.
  • Helped lead the Tigers to a team second-place finish.
