Week 2 Thursday Night Preview: No. 7 Miami Hosts Florida A&M

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - No. 7 Miami will kick off Week 2 of ACC Football on Thursday, September 10, when the Hurricanes welcome Florida A&M to Hard Rock Stadium for an 8 p.m. ET matchup on ACC Network.
 
The Thursday night contest begins a stretch of 14 ACC games across three consecutive days from September 10-12. Miami enters the week as the ACC’s highest-ranked team at No. 7 nationally and will look to continue its strong start to the 2026 season under the lights in South Florida.
 
Following Thursday night’s opener, ACC action continues with four games on Friday before a nine-game Saturday slate. Week 2 features five non-conference matchups against Power Four opponents, including No. 18 Tennessee at Georgia Tech in primetime on ESPN, Duke at Illinois, Wake Forest at Purdue, UCF at Pitt and Rutgers at Boston College. Conference play also continues Saturday with California traveling to Syracuse.

  • Miami has won 11 consecutive meetings against Florida A&M, including a 56-9 victory in the most recent matchup in 2024. Thursday marks the 13th meeting between the two programs.
  • Miami enters the matchup 1-0 following a dominant 45-6 ACC road win at Stanford. The Hurricanes scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and building a 28-6 halftime advantage.
  • Quarterback Darian Mensah was nearly flawless in his Miami debut, completing 27-of-30 passes for a career-high 401 yards and five touchdowns. Mensah has now thrown at least one touchdown pass in 19 consecutive games, the longest active streak among FBS quarterbacks.
  • Sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney turned in a record-setting performance at Stanford, hauling in 12 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. His 234 receiving yards established a Miami single-game record, breaking Eddie Brown’s previous mark of 220 yards, set in 1984.
  • Miami’s defense kept Stanford out of the end zone, allowing just two field goals while surrendering only 78 rushing yards. The Hurricanes held Stanford to 5-of-15 on third down and stopped both of the Cardinal’s fourth-down attempts.
  • Florida A&M enters Thursday 1-1 after falling 31-13 to No. 22 South Carolina State in Sunday’s Orange Blossom Classic at Hard Rock Stadium. The quick turnaround means the Rattlers will play twice at Hard Rock Stadium in a span of five days.
  • FAMU defensive back Justin Bostic is coming off a two-interception performance, including an 80-yard pick-six, against South Carolina State.
  • The Rattlers opened 2026 with a 20-7 win over Albany State in which their defense allowed just 163 total yards and three rushing yards.
