Peggy Sells Buzzer Beater to Lift Clemson to Elite 8 (Mar 21, 1991)
Peggy Sells hit a four-foot shot with one second remaining on the clock to give Clemson a 57-55 win over James Madison in the NCAA East Regional Semifinals at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa, sending the Tigers to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first and only time in program history. Two days later, Clemson lost to UConn by three points, 60-57, in the East Regional Finals. Sells said, about the shot, “I was supposed to penetrate and pass to Cheron (Wells), but I went too far and couldn’t find her. So I looked up, said a prayer, and took the shot.”
