ACC Cross Country Championships Set For Friday

BOSTON (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference kicks off the 2018 Fall Championship schedule on Friday, October 26, with the ACC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park.
 
The women’s 6k final opens the competition at 10:03 a.m., followed by the men’s 8k championship at 11:03.

This marks the second year for the ACC Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park. The venue first hosted the event in 2010, with Florida State taking home both the men’s and women’s titles.

The Syracuse men and NC State women enter this year’s event as the multi-year defending champions.

First-year head coach Brien Bell's Syracuse men’s program will be seeking its sixth ACC cross country championship in as many seasons as a conference member. Coach Laurie Henes’ NC State women will be going after their third straight ACC crown.
 
The Syracuse men enter the ACC Championships holding the No. 10 spot in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, while Virginia is at No. 14 spot and Notre Dame is ranked 15th.
 
Five ACC women’s teams are ranked among the nation’s top 30, led by NC State at No. 12. Notre Dame follows at No. 18, Georgia Tech at No. 22, Syracuse at No. 25 and Florida State at No. 29.

Men’s runners to watch include 2017 ACC runner-up Brent Demarest of Virginia, two-time 2018 ACC Performers of the Week Aidan Tooker of Syracuse, Peter Seufer of Virginia Tech and Caleb Pottorff of Florida State, and Louisville freshman Emmanuel Cheboson.

Louisville returns 2017 ACC women’s runner-up and four-time 2018 ACC Performer of the Week Dorcas Wasike. Also returning are NC State’s 2017 ACC top-four tandem of Dominque Clairmonte and Elly Henes. 2016 ACC champion Anna Rohrer of Notre Dame and Florida State’s Militsa Mircheva (sixth-place ACC finish in 2017) are also expected to compete..

Veteran announcer Dean Linke will be on hand to handle Friday’s ACC Network Extra play-by-play. Linke has worked numerous events for the ACC and other major conferences. He will be joined by analyst Miles Krieger, whose resume includes eight years as a college coach and stints as a director for numerous road races and cross country meets, including the NCAA Division II National Championships.
