Florida State named favorite for 2019 ACC Softball in Coaches Poll
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Reigning national champion Florida State leads all ACC teams with five selections to the inaugural Preseason All-ACC Softball Team and has been chosen as the 2019 ACC softball preseason favorite in a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.
The Seminoles have won five straight ACC Softball Championships, and received all 11 possible first-place votes, as coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Notre Dame finished second in the poll with 102 points. North Carolina (95 points), Pitt (88 points) and Louisville (75 points) were slated third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Duke was picked sixth with 69 points, followed by Georgia Tech (55 points), Syracuse (51 points) and Boston College in ninth with 47 points. Virginia Tech earned the final first-place vote and finished with 41 points for 10th as NC State (29 points) and Virginia (19 points) rounded out the voting.
Louisville, North Carolina and Syracuse have two representatives each on the preseason team, with Duke, Notre Dame, Pitt and Virginia Tech earning one selection each.
The preseason squad includes nine members named 2018 First Team All-ACC, and five named Second Team All-ACC last year.
The Preseason All-ACC Softball Team is voted on by the league's head coaches and consists of a minimum of 14 players. Each ballot consisted of five infielders, four outfielders, three pitchers, a catcher and either a designated player or utility player.
