– Georgia Tech shot a tournament-record 37-under par 827 to claim the 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Old North State Club on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets posted a final round 281 (-7) to win their 18th title in program history and 10th in the last 14 years.

Georgia Tech finished 15 shots ahead of second place Virginia (-22), the Cavaliers’ highest showing since 2012.  The Yellow Jackets topped the previous tournament team record of 33-under, which they established in 2011.  Wake Forest (-19) was third, followed by Duke (-12) and Florida State (-12) in a tie for fourth.

"I'm happy for the guys,” said Georgia Tech head coach Bruce Heppler. “It's a good group and they played really, really well the first day. It was a fight today, but they  played well today and I'm really happy for them."

After playing 36 holes on Thursday due to inclement weather that hit Friday afternoon, the teams closed out the championship under windy, cool conditions, which made scoring a little more difficult.  Virginia (-9), Wake Forest (-9) and Georgia Tech (-7) had the best rounds of the day.

"I've never slept on a lead for two nights in a row,” said Heppler.  “And it was such a big one, I'm sure they were a little unnerved this morning because it's a long time to wait. We didn't get off to a great start, but they continued to play hard and played really well on the back nine to get it done."

Florida State sophomore John Pak became the second golfer in program history to capture the ACC individual title with a three-round total of 203 (-13) to edge Georgia Tech’s Andy Ogletree (-12), Clemson’s Bryson Nimmer (-11) and Virginia’s David Morgan (-10).  The only other FSU golfer to win an ACC title was Jonas Blixt in 2007.

"I'm just really happy - speechless really,” said Pak. “This is probably the biggest win of my career and I'm just really happy to be here.  I love to know where the other players are, so it helped me (playing with Ogletree). I just kind of played match play with him all day, which was really fun."

Four Georgia Tech golfers finished in the top 16 led by Ogletree and Luke Schniederjans (sixth, -8) who both finished in the top 10.  Connor Howe finished tied for 14th at -5 and Tyler Strafaci was tied for 16th at -4.
