CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – SMU senior William Sides has been named the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Rod Myers Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlined the 2026 All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team, announced on Monday, June 29.
Sides closed the season as one of two ACC players to earn Golf Coaches Association of America All-America first-team honors, becoming the first Mustang to earn an All-America honor since 2021. The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native finished 13th in the Scoreboard Individual rankings after receiving an individual at-large bid to the NCAA Bryan Regional. He ended the year with a 68.4 scoring average, the third-lowest in the ACC. He was named to the All-ACC team after the national championship.
Named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, Sides earned a degree in accounting.
A total of 48 student-athletes were named to the All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team, as all 15 schools were represented. Duke’s William Love, Georgia Tech’s Hiroshi Tai, Notre Dame’s Nate Stevens and Virginia’s Bryan Lee were honored for the fourth time in their collegiate careers. Notre Dame and Virginia Tech led the way with five honorees each, while Duke, NC State and Stanford placed four players apiece.
A total of 11 of the 15 members of the All-ACC Team were named to this season’s All-ACC Academic Team.
Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team include a minimum 3.0 grade point average for the previous two semesters and a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the student-athlete’s academic career, along with being enrolled at the institution for at least one year and classified as an undergraduate student. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s athletic contests.
