Barber, Hernandez, Ågren Pick Up ACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson junior midfielder Grayson Barber and Wake Forest sophomore midfielder Omar Hernandez were named the ACC Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Clemson sophomore defender Oskar Ågren notched ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Hernandez scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute off a direct free kick to give No. 2 Wake Forest a 2-1 victory at Duke on Friday night. It was his first goal of the season and the first game-winning goal of his career. It also was his first career goal in an ACC match. A native of Dalton, Georgia, Hernandez was making his second career start and his first of the season.
 
An Elgin, South Carolina, native, Barber scored his first goal of the season as No. 3 Clemson claimed a 1-0 road win at NC State on Friday. The goal was the fifth game-winning score of his career and came in the 63rd minute as the Tigers claimed their third straight victory.
 
A native of Malmo, Sweden, Ågren was a part of his 13th clean sheet leading the Tigers’ backline in the victory at NC State. It was Clemson’s third shutout in six matches this season. Ågren earned his 28th career start in the match.  
 
Barber and Ågren are back in action Tuesday as the Tigers play host to No. 5 North Carolina in a top-5 showdown. Game time is 7 p.m. on ACC Network. That starts a big week for Clemson, which then travels to No. 2 Wake Forest Friday for a 5 p.m. match that will air on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks. In addition to the Wake Forest-Clemson match Friday, three other ACC games will be televised Friday: Notre Dame-Pitt and Virginia Tech-Louisville at 6 and 8 p.m., respectively, on ACC Network and Syracuse-Virginia at 8 p.m. on RSN.
