GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Five Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball student-athletes have been named to the Associated Press All-America Teams, announced on Thursday.
Louisville junior guard Dana Evans garnered second team honors, while NC State sophomore center Elissa Cunane was named to the third team. Duke graduate guard Haley Gorecki, Florida State senior forward Kiah Gillespie and Miami senior forward Beatrice Mompremier collected honorable mention.
Evans was tabbed ACC Player of the Year after leading the league in 3-point field goals (90), 3-point field goals made per game (3.0), 3-point field goal percentage (43.1%) and free throw percentage (89.0%). She averaged 18.0 points and 4.20 assists per game.
Her 90 3-point field goals ranked 12th in the country and eighth all-time in Louisville program history. The junior from Gary, Indiana, had 10 games with 20 or more points, which was tied for fourth in the league. Evans scored in double figures in 29 of 30 games played.
Cunane becomes the first NC State women's basketball player to earn a spot on one of the three AP All-American teams after six honorable mention recognitions in program history. A native of Summerfield, North Carolina, she put together a strong 2019-20 campaign en route to helping the Wolfpack to a 28-4 overall record, its first ACC Tournament title since 1991 and a program-record 14 conference victories.
The center led the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest. Cunane scored 20 or more points in 10 outings and hit double figures in all but five games during her sophomore season.
She ended the year with national top-30 marks in five categories: defensive rebounds per game (6.9), double-doubles (14), field-goal percentage (.547), free throws made (159) and total rebounds (308).
Gorecki, a native of Palatine, Illinois, was the only student-athlete in Power 5 conferences averaging more than 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She collected seven double-doubles and 12 contests with 20 or more points for the Blue Devils.
A 6-1 guard, Gorecki ranked in the top 20 in numerous ACC categories including second in scoring (18.5), second in steals (2.1), seventh in assists (4.4), third in free throw percentage (85.6), 18th in rebounds (6.6), third in minutes played (36.4), eighth in 3-point field goals made (2.0) and seventh in 3-point field goal percentage (33.7).
An All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team honoree, Gorecki is also one of five finalists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award for the top shooting guard in the nation.
Gillespie became just the third Seminole to win multiple All-ACC First Team honors, being named to the team in 2020 for the second consecutive season. The All-American enjoyed another tremendous year, totaling nine 20-point games, 15 10-rebound games and 12 double-doubles in 2019-20.
The Meriden, Connecticut, native has put up some impressive numbers in FSU’s eight games against AP Top 25 opponents. She averaged 21.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, 52.6 percent shooting (61-116) and 41.9 percent from downtown (18-43) in eight AP Top 25 games in 2019-20.
During conference play, Gillespie ranked in the Top 10 in scoring (15.6), rebounding (7.7), field goal percentage (44.2) and defensive rebounds (5.7) in 2019-20. In just 65 career games, she tallied 25 double-doubles at FSU to rank fourth in program history.
Mompremier, a Miami native, finished the 2019-20 season just shy of averaging a double-double, recording 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She ranked first in the ACC in rebounding (9.8), fifth in scoring (16.8), sixth in blocked shots (1.41) and seventh in field goal percentage (.521).
Mompremier eclipsed the 1,000 rebound mark this season, becoming the 13th active NCAA Division I women's basketball player to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career.
