ACC Announces Cross Country Performers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference today recognized the following student-athletes as the ACC Cross Country Performers of the Week.
 
ACC Men’s Performer of the Week – Adriaan Wildschutt, Florida State, Sr., Ceres, South Africa
Earned his fourth ACC Performer of the Week honor of this season after placing second among a loaded field at last Friday’s Pre-National hosted by FSU. Wildschutt posted a time an 8K time of 22:49.4 – the third  fastest time in the history of Apalachee Regional Park – to place 2.4 seconds behind defending national champion and USTFCCCA Men’s National Co-Athlete of the Week Conner Mantz of BYU. Wildschutt helped FSU to an eighth-place finish in a field that included 12 of the nation’s top 30 teams.  
 
ACC Women’s Performer of the Week – Kelsey Chmiel, NC State, Jr., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Chmiel was the top finisher for the Wolfpack for the second-straight meet. The sophomore placed second at the Nuttycombe Invitational in the Championship Race, posting a time of 20:00.02 on the 6K course. Chmiel trailed only USTFCCCA Women’s National Athlete of the Week Ceili McCabe of West Virginia by 2.8 seconds and placed ahead of 2020 NCAA runner-up Taylor Roe of Oklahoma State, who finished third. Top-ranked NC State placed second in the team scoring in a field that featured the top three teams in the latest USTFCCCA poll and 19 teams ranked among the nation’s top 30.
 
ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week – Parker Wolfe, North Carolina, Fr., Denver, Colo.
In a large and competitive men’s field at the Nuttycombe Invitational, Parker Wolfe led the Tar Heels with a 24th-place 8K finish of 23:49.2. In the field of 227 runners, Wolfe was second among all ACC runners and was the first conference freshman to finish. He helped the Tar Heels to an 18th-place team finish in a field of 31 teams, 17 of which are ranked in the nation’s top 30.
 
ACC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week – Margot Appleton, Virginia, Fr., Mattapoisett, Mass.
Appleton was the runner-up in the women’s race with a 5K time of 17:13.8 during last weekend’s XC23 Invitational held at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Virginia. Appleton led the Cavaliers to a second-place finish behind Yale in the eight-team field.
 
ACC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week – Sarah Copeland, Georgia Tech, Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa
Copeland finished 12th at the Penn State National Open and first among true freshmen. Her 6k time of 21:19.8 marked a 56.7 second improvement from her time at the recent Griak Invitational. The freshman showed great poise in climbing from 42nd place at the 1200m mark to finish 12th overall.
