North Carolina’s Pinto, Wake Forest’s Parks Earn ACC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - North Carolina junior midfielder Brianna Pinto has been named ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Wake Forest redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks collected her second consecutive ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Parks becomes the first to garner back-to-back defensive player of the week laurels since the honor began in 2015.

Pinto tallied a hat trick to lead second-ranked North Carolina to a 7-0 win against Tennessee on Saturday. The junior becomes the fourth ACC player to record three goals in a single game this season. Her first goal extended the Tar Heels lead to 2-0 in the first half and she added a pair of goals in the second half, stretching the UNC advantage to 5-0 and later 7-0.

It marked the sixth hat trick by a North Carolina player since 2010. UNC’s Ruby Grant also logged a hat trick against the Volunteers, as they became the first Tar Heel teammates to record a hat trick in the same game since Aja Parsons and Joan Dunlap on Sept. 7, 1984, against Warren Wilson.

Pinto, a Durham, North Carolina, native leads the Tar Heels with 10 goals on the year, which is second in the ACC.

For the second consecutive week, Parks recorded a clean sheet as she helped lead Wake Forest to a 3-0 victory against Elon on Sunday. She recorded a save in the first half and two in the second half.

The Upper Marlboro, Maryland, redshirt freshman powered the Demon Deacons to their sixth shutout of the year, recording her fourth clean sheet and fourth win of her young career.

ACC women’s soccer action returns Thursday, as North Carolina travels to Villanova for a 1 p.m. kickoff, Boston College hosts Northeastern at 5 p.m. and Virginia Tech makes the short trip to Liberty for a 6 p.m. start.
