GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - No. 1 seed Duke and No. 3 seed Florida State advanced to the match play finals of the 2021 ACC Women’s Golf Championship with semifinal victories on Saturday at Sedgefield Country Club.
The Seminoles earned a 4-1 win against Wake Forest and the Blue Devils defeated Virginia, 3-2. Duke and Florida State will meet in the match play finals on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Amelia Williamson opened the scoring for Florida State with a 2&1 victory against Wake Forest’s Siyun Liu, but Lauren Walsh of the Demon Deacons countered with a 2 Up win versus Charlotte Heath to even the match.
The Seminoles’ Alice Hodge recorded a 4&3 win against Wake’s Mimi Rhodes and Beatrice Wallin, silver medalist during stroke play for Florida State, clinched the match with a 2 Up win against Emilia Migliaccio.
After the match was decided, Taylor Roberts (FSU) and Rachel Kuehn (WF) continued to play out their match with Roberts emerging victorious in 24 holes.
Phoebe Brinker opened the scoring for Duke with a 4&2 victory against Virginia’s Riley Smyth. Anne Chen pushed the Blue Devils advantage to 2-0 with a 5&3 win versus Celeste Valinho. Beth Lillie got the Cavaliers on the board, defeating Erica Shepherd, 4&2.
Individual stroke play champion Gina Kim sealed the semifinal win for Duke thanks to a 3&2 victory against Jennifer Cleary.
Sunday’s finals of match play begin at 9 a.m. Spectators are allowed to attend, and no ticket is required. Spectators are required to wear a mask.
