Miami's Toral, Wake Forest's Cusick Earn ACC Baseball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami junior Alex Toral has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Wake Forest sophomore Ryan Cusick earned ACC Pitcher of the Week accolades.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

Toral crushed three long homers while slugging 1.231 to help Miami go 4-0 on the week, including a three-game ACC series sweep of Clemson.

Toral went 2-for-3 in Wednesday night’s win over Florida Gulf Coast, clubbing a leadoff solo homer in the fourth inning that hit the parking garage beyond the right field fence. The blast set the tone for the series opener versus Clemson, as Toral hit two long home runs that traveled more than 430 feet in Friday’s 12-3 Hurricanes’ win. The veteran first baseman finished the week batting .538 (7-for-13) with a 1.856 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) while also drawing three walks and scoring four runs.

Cusick delivered his best performance of the season in Wake Forest's 11-0 victory at Duke on Friday night, allowing just four hits while striking out 11 batters in his seven-inning scoreless stint.

It marked the fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season for the Sudbury, Massachusetts, native, who didn't allow more than one hit in any inning and struck out two Duke batters in four separate frames.
