UNC’s Matson, Louisville’s Kouijzer Earn ACC Field Hockey Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina junior forward Erin Matson has been named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the 2020-21 season, while Louisville’s Julie Kouijzer earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Matson was recognized as the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row and the sixth time this season, while Kouijzer earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the first time.

Matson scored three of top-ranked UNC's four goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-3 overtime win at No. 11 Syracuse on Sunday. It was the Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, native’s second hat trick, including an OT game-winner, in as many games. Matson has scored 11 of the Tar Heels’ 15 goals this spring and assisted on another.

Kouijzer played solid defense and chipped in a goal to help Louisville in the backfield as the No. 4 Cardinals defeated ninth-ranked Wake Forest 4-1 in their regular season finale on Saturday. The sophomore defender from Amsterdam, Netherlands, helped limit the Demon Deacons to only three shots on goal in the contest.

Matson and UNC (15-1) are set to play host to Wake Forest in the NCAA Championship qualifier this Friday at 1 p.m. Louisville (13-5), which placed atop the ACC regular-season fall standings, is hopeful of an at-large selection when this year’s NCAA bracket and pairings are unveiled Saturday at 10 p.m. ET on ncaa.com.
