No. 2 Florida State Blanks No. 7 NC State in ACC Championship Quarterfinals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (theACC.com) – Florida State pitcher Kathryn Sandercock threw a two-hit complete game as the No. 2-seeded Seminoles beat No. 7 NC State 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship Thursday evening at Ulmer Stadium.
 
The No. 7-ranked Seminoles, who scored two runs on six hits and were flawless in the field, moved to 39-9-1 on the season. Sandercock, who fanned five and walked one batter, threw just 77 pitches with 54 in the strike zone. She moves to 22-1 on the season with the win.

NC State had no runs on two hits and bows out of the tournament with a 26-25 record. Wolfpack starter Estelle Czech threw six complete innings, scattering six hits, walking two and striking out one to take the loss and drop her record to 4-6 on the year.
 
Florida State scored its first run in the bottom of the second when Devyn Flaherty hit a solo homer with one out. The Seminoles added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Sydney Sherrill doubled to left, advanced to second on a ground out by Kalei Harding and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Elizabeth Mason.
 
Florida State advances to tomorrow’s 3:30 p.m. semifinal and awaits the winner of tonight’s game between No. 6 Louisville and No. 3 Duke.
 
ACC fans will be able to watch all nine games of the ACC Championship. The first three rounds will be broadcast on ACC Network, and ESPN will carry the championship game.
