League-Record Seven ACC Men’s Golf Teams Advance to NCAA Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – A league-record seven Atlantic Coast Conference men’s golf teams – the most of any conference – have advanced from NCAA Regional play and will compete at the NCAA Championship, May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
 
Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest all finished in the top five of their respective NCAA Regional to earn a spot in the national championship field.  The previous record for ACC teams in the NCAA Championship was six, which occurred on five occasions, most recently in 2019. 
 
Second-ranked Florida State was the No. 1 seed in the Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional and blitzed the field with a three-day total of 830, 34 strokes under par, to win its first NCAA Regional. The Seminoles were led by Vincent Norrman, who finished third (-9) and John Pak, who finished fourth (-8).  All five FSU golfers placed in the top 17 of the tournament.  The Seminoles will be making their 26th NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2017.
 
Georgia Tech finished two positions behind Florida State in third place at 16-under-par.  The Yellow Jackets advanced to the NCAA Championship for the 30th time in school history.  Freshman Christo Lamprecht tied for seventh place at 7-under-par 209.
 
North Carolina placed in a tie for second at the Noblesville (Ind.) Regional at 10-under-par.  ACC individual champion Peter Fountain fired a final-day 67 to finish 10th along with teammate Austin Greaser.  The Tar Heels advanced to the NCAA Championship for the 46th time in school history and the fourth time in as many regionals. 
 
Louisville also advanced from the Noblesville Regional with a 4-under-par performance in Wednesday’s final round to place fourth.  The Cardinals advanced to the national championships for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 2019.
 
Clemson and NC State tied for fourth in the Kingston Springs (Tenn.) Regional at 3-under-par.  In this tightly contested regional, the Tigers fired a final day 283 (-1) and the Wolfpack was even on the day (284) to finish two strokes ahead of Charlotte for the final two spots.  Clemson’s Turk Pettit shot back-to-back 69s to finish fourth and NC State’s Maximilian Steinlechner was the team’s top finisher in eighth. 
 
It marks the sixth straight time Clemson has qualified for the NCAA Championship and the 30th overall under head coach Larry Penley. NC State advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2018 and the 19th time in program history.
 
Wake Forest advanced to the NCAA Championship for the 46th time in school history with a third-place finish (-2) at the Cle Elum (Wash.) Regional.  The Demon Deacons were led by a second-place finish from Alex Fitzpatrick at 7-under par. 
 
The national championship format consists of 30 teams and 10 individuals competing in stroke play competition beginning Friday, May 28. The top eight teams advance to match play with quarterfinals and semifinals on Tuesday, June 1 and the national championship match on Wednesday, June 2.
