GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech junior first baseman Tricia Awald has been voted the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Virginia Tech’s Keely Rochard has been named the Pitcher of the Week.
The ACC softball weekly awards are voted on by a 20-member panel from both the teams and the conference office.
Awald turned in an excellent performance at the plate across Georgia Tech’s sweep of Virginia, leading the Jackets in batting (.714) as she went 5-for-7 with two homers, five RBI and three runs scored. Virginia opted to pitch around her much of the series as she also came away with four walks, one each game. The Marietta, Georgia, native batted .500 or better in each contest and batted a perfect 1.000 in the final two games of the series. Awald finished with an .833 on-base percentage and a 1.571 slugging percentage. In the field, she aided the Jackets to a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage as a team through the series with 25 putouts.
Rochard earned the win in all four games for the Hokies in their series sweep of Syracuse. The junior from Williamsburg, Virginia, tossed her second no-hitter of the year in game one and held the Orange to just seven hits in 22 innings pitched. Rochard allowed one earned run while striking out 37 batters to just three walks.
