Notre Dame’s Abby Sweet Highlights 2021 All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Abby Sweet has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team announced Monday.

A senior outfielder from Newhall, California, Sweet majors in management consulting. She was a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 25 finalist and a second-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American. Sweet was also a first-team NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection, a member of the All-ACC First Team and a two-time ACC Player of the Week for the 2021 season.

ACC Champion Duke and Clemson lead the league with six players each on the academic team, followed by Notre Dame with five. National runner-up Florida State, NC State and Pitt have four selections each.

Two members of the team were named All-Americans, 14 received All-Region honors and 31 earned All-ACC distinction.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
