ACC Announces Cross Country Performers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference today recognized the following student-athletes as the ACC Cross Country Performers of the Week.

ACC Men’s Performer of the Week – Adriaan Wildschutt, Florida State, Sr., Ceres, South Africa
Wildschutt earned his second ACC weekly honor of the season with another dominating performance, winning the FSU XC Open by almost 11 seconds ahead of the next competitor, Stanford All-American Charles Hicks. Despite muggy conditions that made for a slower course, Wildschutt’s winning time of 23:21.9 was the fourth-fastest collegiate 8k in Apalachee Regional Park history, and just off his PB of 23:16 (third-fastest in park history). Wildschutt led from start to finish and built his largest lead of nearly 15 seconds at the 6k mark.

ACC Women’s Performer of the Week – Katelyn Tuohy, NC State, So., Stony Point, N.Y.
Tuohy opened her 2021 cross country campaign at the adidas XC Challenge with her first career individual title, completing the 5K course at the WakeMed Cross Country Course in 16:29.6. She spent the entire race at the front of the pack, leading the team to a first-place finish in which all 10 competitors in a Wolfpack uniform finished in the top 15. She finished the season-opening race ahead of NC State's Hannah Steelman and Kelsey Chmiel, both of whom finished in the top 10 at the 2020 NCAA Championship. The meet marked the first regular-season action of Tuohy’s career.

ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week – Parker Wolfe, North Carolina, Fr., Denver, Colo.
In his first race as a Tar Heel, Wolfe led the field to take first at the adidas XC Challenge. The true freshman’s winning 6k time of 17:48 paced UNC to a team victory with 31 points, ahead of host NC State at 47, No. 15 Wake Forest at 58, UNC Greensboro at 110 and No. 23 Duke at 135.

ACC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week – Kate Wiser, Notre Dame, Fr., Southbury, Conn.
Wiser won the first collegiate meet of her career, winning the National Catholic Invitational with a 5k time of 17:16.5 to lead the Irish to a first-place finish in the 15-team meet.

ACC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week – Mia Barnett, Virginia, Fr., La Crescenta, Calif.
Barnett won in her collegiate debut, helping UVA to the Virginia Invitational team title with a near-perfect score of 17 points. She led the race from the 2k mark and placed almost 12 seconds ahead of runner-up teammate Helena Lindsay.
