GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Two new ACC records and four times/marks that rank among the top two in the nation headline the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Performers of the Week for April 26.
ACC WOMEN’S TRACK CO-PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Katelyn Tuohy, NC State, So., Stony Point, N.Y.
Tuohy blew multiple records out of the water in the women’s 5000 meters at the Virginia Challenge as she took first place in the event. The sophomore ran a 15:14.61 for the eighth-fastest time in collegiate history and the fastest time in the NCAA this season. Her mark was good to set new ACC, facility, meet, school and personal records. Tuohy’s time was almost 12 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and beat the previous NC State school record by more than four seconds. She was more than two seconds faster than the previous ACC time of 15:16.76 set by Wake Forest’s Michelle Sykes in 2007.

Mia Barnett, Virginia, Fr.,
La Crescenta, Calif.
Barnett ran a nation-leading NCAA Division I time and finished as the top collegian in the 1500 meters at the Virginia Challenge. Barnett’s time of 4:11.32 placed less than a second behind race winner Michaela Meyer, who now runs professionally for Nike after setting both ACC overall and ACC Championship records while running for the Cavaliers last season. Barnett also competed in the women’s 800 at the Virginia Challenge, clocking 2:06.79 to currently rank eighth in the ACC.

Ethan Dabbs, Virginia, Sr., Johnstown, Pa.
Dabbs broke the ACC men’s javelin throw record that had stood for almost 11 years with his mark of 80.41 meters (263’10”) at the Virginia Challenge. Dabbs became the first ACC thrower to surpass the 80-meter mark and broke the previous record held by Virginia Tech’s Matthias Treff by more than eight feet. Dabbs, who currently ranks second nationally, broke his own Virginia school mark while also setting a Virginia Challenge record and a Lannigan Field facility mark.

Gabriela Leon, Louisville, Sr., Grand Rapids, Mich.
Leon re-established the women’s outdoor pole vault school record with a facility-best and first-place height of 4.57 meters (15-feet even) at the Indiana Invitational. The redshirt senior’s mark ranks first in the ACC and second nationally. Leon previously set the program record mark this season with a bar of 4.55m (14-11) at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Mar. 26. The event win marks her second straight.

Guinove Joanus, Clemson, So., Elizabeth, N.J.
Joanus won both the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the UofSC Open, and in the process put himself in Clemson’s all-time top 10 for both events. His time of 20.37 in the 200 meters led a field of 62 runners and currently ranks 13th in the nation. The Tiger sophomore placed first among 76 competitors in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 10.16 that ranks 30th nationally.
