PITTSBURGH (theACC.com) - Seventh-seeded Georgia Tech earned a 4-2 win against No. 10 seed NC State in the ACC Softball Championship Wednesday afternoon at Vartabedian Field. The Yellow Jackets advance to the quarterfinals for the third straight championship.
Georgia Tech struck first in the contest, after an RBI double from Jin Sileo to put the Yellow Jackets ahead, 1-0. Bailee Zeitler hit a one-out single prior to Sileo’s double to left field. NC State countered in the third to grab a 2-1 lead following a two-run homer to center field by Logan Morris.
Kennedy Cowden knotted the score at 2-2 with a run-scoring single, the third hit of the inning for Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets tacked on two runs in the fifth to pull ahead, 4-2. Elle Edgmon started the rally with a one-out double and Georgia Tech capitalized on an NC State error to score a pair of runs on Emma Kauf’s double.
Blake Neleman was fantastic in the circle, limiting the Wolfpack to just two hits and two unearned runs with 13 strikeouts. The junior pitcher improves to 14-8 on the year. Maddie McPherson went the distance for NC State, pitching six innings with three earned runs and three strikeouts.
Georgia Tech tallied eight hits in the game, as Cowden and Zeitler had two hits apiece. Randi Farricker and Morris logged hits for NC State.
The Yellow Jackets will play No. 2 seed Duke in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Thursday evening.
