GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest midfielder Meike Lanckohr has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Louisville goalkeeper Sasha Elliott earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Lanckohr led Wake Forest in a perfect 2-0 weekend on the team’s West Coast swing with a team-high 12 points, netting five goals and two assists.
In the Demon Deacons' 6-0 win at UC Davis on Friday, Lanckohr registered the first hat trick of her career while also dishing out an assist. Lanckohr followed up that performance with a pair of first-half goals in Wake Forest's 6-1 win at Cal on Sunday. The senior also notched an assist for the third-straight match.
Lanckohr has been an instrumental force throughout Wake Forest's current three-match win streak in which the Demon Deacons have outscored their opponents 18-2. This marks the most goals scored for the program in three-consecutive matches since the 2017 season (18 goals, Oct. 1- Oct. 8).
Elliott was instrumental in a pair of wins on the weekend as the fifth-ranked Cardinals improved to 6-0 on the season. The graduate senior goalkeeper posted a 0.50 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage, surrendering only one goal in two games.
In Louisville’s home opener against James Madison, Elliott collected three saves en route to her first shutout of the season. She followed that performance with six saves in the 2-1 win over No. 4 Michigan. In Sunday’s win, Elliott held the Wolverines at bay when she stopped a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter and later keyed a defensive stand with a crucial save as the Wolverines drew three penalty corners in the final minute of the game.
Elliott (6-0) now carries an 0.83 goals against average and an .868 save percentage for the season.
Both of this week’s honorees are natives of the Netherlands, with Lanckohr hailing from Voerendaal and Elliott from Amsterdam.
