Louisville, Syracuse Claim ACC Weekly Field Hockey Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville’s Katie Schneider and Syracuse’s Quirine Comans have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Louisville’s Julie Kouijzer earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Schneider delivered three goals and dished out an assist to lead the ninth-ranked Cardinals to a pair of wins in the ACC/Ivy League Crossover. The graduate senior scored a pair of goals in Friday’s 4-1 win over Penn. She keyed the offense against No. 13 Princeton on Sunday, giving the Cards a 1-0 lead and then dishing out an assist on the second goal to put Louisville 2-0 in the eventual 2-1 win over the Tigers. For the weekend, Schneider registered a team-best five shots, four of which were on target.

After leading the Cardinals with nine goals last season, Schneider now paces the team with four goals in the early 2022 campaign. The San Diego native has tallied 23 career goals.

Comans paced No. 10 Syracuse to a 2-0 week, stocking up 11 points on five goals and one assist. Comans struck twice in the Orange’s road trip to Kent State, followed by the first hat trick of her career in Sunday's 6-2 win over visiting Columbia. Comans scored on half of her total shots while scoring on over half of her shots on goal.

A grad student from Bergen, Netherlands, Comans had the second hat trick for the Orange this season while also scoring at least two points in every game in 2022. She is on a four-game point streak, the second longest of her Orange career.

Louisville’s Kouijzer recorded an assist and recorded a defensive save while keying a Louisville defensive unit which held opponents to a 1.00 goals against average and 12 shots on goal in a pair of wins in the ACC/Ivy League Crossover.

The Amsterdam senior’s assist and save came in the Cardinals’ 4-1 win against Penn on Friday. She then helped limit No. 13 Princeton to four shots on goal in Louisville’s 2-1 victory on Sunday.
