CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (theACC.com) – North Carolina captured its seventh straight ACC Field Hockey Championship Friday, using a pair of third-quarter goals to down rival Duke, 2-0, in the championship game at the University of Virginia’s Turf Field in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Named the tournament MVP, sophomore forward Ryleigh Heck scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the top-seeded Tar Heels (14-3). UNC won its eighth ACC tournament crown in the last nine tournaments and has now earned 26 of the 41 ACC titles all-time.

Making their fourth appearance in the ACC Championship game and their first since 2011, the No. 2 seed Blue Devils (16-4) were shut out for the first time this season. UNC out-shot Duke, 12-7, and put five shots on goal to three for the Blue Devils.

UNC scored three minutes into the third quarter, as Heck took a deflected shot and deftly tapped the ball in, just inside the top of the cage. The Tar Heels doubled their lead six minutes later when Heck assisted on a Bruder score.

The selection show for the 2023 NCAA Championship will be held at 10 p.m. Sunday on NCAA.com.
