SOUTH BEND, Ind. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech defeated Notre Dame, 8-1, on Wednesday in the second game of the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship at Melissa Cook Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. The Yellow Jackets move on to face the No. 2 seeded Duke Blue Devils on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the third quarterfinal game.
Ella Edgmon, Emma Kauf and Emma Minghini each had three hits in Georgia Tech’s 10-hit afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The first three batters reached on two singles and an error, and two RBI singles from Emma Minghini and Abby Hughes scored Emma Kauf and Grace Connelly.
Ella Edgmon singled to left field and scored off an Emma Kauf double to give Georgia Tech a 3-0 lead through the second inning. Kauf reached on a throwing error while the Yellow Jackets added two unearned runs and pushed their lead to 5-0 after the third inning.
GT junior Mallorie Black RBI-singled through the left side scoring Meghan Cassidy, who pinch ran for Sara Beth Allen. Paige Vukadinovich added on another run with GT’s fourth RBI single of the afternoon. Notre Dame third baseman Joley Mitchell hit a solo home run to get the Irish on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Yellow Jackets ended the inning with a 7-1 lead heading into the fifth inning.
A sac-fly RBI from Caroline Davis gave Georgia Tech its last run of the day, for an 8-1 final score.
Blake Neleman allowed one run on five hits and tallied three strikeouts in seven innings of work to earn the win, pushing her record to 11-10.
