GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Eight Atlantic Coast Conference teams will be among the 64-team field when the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship gets underway this Friday.
As first announced Sunday night, ACC champion Clemson will be a regional host, along with Atlantic Division winner Wake Forest, Coastal Division winner Virginia and Miami. Boston College, Duke, North Carolina and NC State were also announced as 2023 participants as the completed NCAA bracket was unveiled Monday afternoon.
Wake Forest (47-10) was awarded the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed as it landed a spot in the NCAA bracket for the 15th time and second year in a row. The Demon Deacons became the seventh ACC program to earn the No. 1 overall seed since the NCAA went to the current format in 1999 and the first from the conference since North Carolina in 2013.
Clemson landed a No. 4 national seed, while Virginia is seeded seventh and Miami ninth. Miami’s appearance in this year’s NCAA tournament will be its 49th all-time, which ranks third nationally.
The NCAA Regionals will be played Friday, June 2 through Monday, June 5. The ACC’s eight selections to the field rank second nationally among all conferences.
The ACC has placed at least six teams in the NCAA tournament for 19 straight years. This is the seventh year since 2010 that at least eight ACC teams have landed spots in the field.
Clemson (42-17) is back in the NCAA Tournament field for the first time since 2019 but for the 45th time overall, the fifth most in NCAA history. The Tigers open versus Lipscomb (36-24) on Friday.
Virginia (45-12) returns for the third straight year and 20th time overall. The Cavaliers have an opening round date Friday versus Army West Point (38-16).
Miami (40-18) will host for the second straight year and will welcome Maine (32-19) for Friday’s opener.
Boston College (35-18) is headed to the Tuscaloosa, Regional hosted by Alabama for its 12th postseason appearance and the first since 2016, when the Eagles advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals. The Eagles will face Troy in their opening game on Friday.
Duke (35-21) will be making its fourth NCAA appearance in five years and 10th overall when it travels to the Conway Regional hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Blue Devils will be paired against UNC Wilmington (34-21) in their opening game.
North Carolina (35-22) is making its 35th NCAA appearance and travels to the Terre Haute Regional hosted by Indiana State. The Tar Heels drew Iowa (42-14) for their first tournament game.
NC State (35-19) will make its 33rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament field and travels to the Columbia Regional hosted by South Carolina. The Wolfpack will face in-state opponent Campbell on Friday afternoon.
Following the completion of regional play, the selection of the eight NCAA Super Regional hosts will be announced at
www.NCAA.com/mcws on Tuesday, June 6, by approximately 10 a.m. (ET). The 66th Men’s College World Series is slated to begin Friday, June 16, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.

The regional format for the DI baseball championship is a double-elimination tournament format with the winning 16 teams advancing to Super Regionals, which will be held from June 9-12. The top eight teams remaining will host the Super Regionals on-campus in a best-of-three series with the eight winners advancing to Omaha.
At least one ACC team has reached the College World Series each of the previous 16 years in which it has been held, and multiple ACC teams reached the CWS 10 times during that span. The ACC has placed a total of 29 teams in the past 16 College World Series, an average of just under two per season.
A total of 107 ACC teams have earned NCAA bids in the last 14 tournament years. The 14 current ACC teams have a combined 99 College World Series appearances.
