CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.org) – North Carolina junior outfielder Vance Honeycutt was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Florida State sophomore left-handed pitcher Jamie Arnold earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Week honors.
ACC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by a 17-member voting panel composed of media members and announced on Mondays during the regular season.
Honeycutt posted a monster week at the plate, crushing home runs in each of the Tar Heels’ first three games of the week. The Salisbury, North Carolina, native went 6-for-15 at the plate with three home runs and eight runs batted in. The junior outfielder hit a grand slam for the Tar Heels in Tuesday’s win over Elon, before recording four more hits against No. 11 East Carolina over the weekend. Additionally, Honeycutt became just the second player in UNC history to join the 40 home run and 50 stolen bases club.
Arnold worked a career-high 6.0 innings, while fanning a career-best 11 hitters in the Seminoles 8-4 win over Western Carolina on Saturday. The Seminole left-hander allowed just one hit while issuing two walks. In 11.0 innings of work this season, the Tampa, Florida, product boasts a spotless 0.00 ERA, making him just one of five Power Five conference pitchers to work 11.0+ innings without allowing an earned run – three of whom hail from ACC schools.
