Clemson's Spencer, Duke's Davidson Earn ACC Softball Weekly Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke's Claire Davidson was named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Clemson's Regan Spencer earned her first Pitcher of the Week honor of the season following the fifth week of play.

The ACC softball weekly awards are voted on by a panel from both the schools and the conference office.

Davidson hit 5-for-13 with a triple, two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored in No. 6 Duke's series win over then-No. 16 Florida State. The Lakewood Ranch, Florida, native finished with a single, a triple and a two-run home runs during Friday's series opener, tallying her 100th career hit after batting 3-for-3 during the contest. The senior sent out her second two-run blast in the top of the eighth inning of Sunday's rubber match to help the Blue Devils secure the 9-5 victory. Davidson posted a 1.000 slugging and .500 on-base percentage on the weekend.

Spencer clocked a 0.00 ERA through three appearances and limited the best offense in the country in North Carolina to a .257 batting average over nine innings without giving up a run. The senior threw 80 pitches in then-No. 12 Clemson's complete-game shutout of the Tar Heels on Friday, marking her first solo shutout of 2024, allowing just five hits with no walks while striking out three batters. The Lexington, North Carolina, native got the start in the circle for Sunday's game against UNC to help the Tigers sweep the series after pitching two innings without giving up a walk. On Sunday, Spencer faced 10 batters and dropped her season ERA to 0.51 after throwing 30 pitches. She also pitched a single inning against Gardner-Webb in Clemson's midweek game with a strikeout to help combine for another shutout in the five-inning victory and help the Tigers to a perfect 4-0 weekend.

Four ACC teams are ranked in the top 20 of the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll led by Duke holding at No. 6, Clemson improving to No. 11, Virginia Tech jumping to No. 16 and Florida State at No. 17.
