Three ACC Standouts Selected in 2024 WNBA Draft

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the 27th consecutive year, the Atlantic Coast Conference had at least one student-athlete selected in the WNBA Draft, as the 2024 edition was held Monday evening and broadcasted live on ESPN.

Syracuse’s Dyaisha Fair was the first ACC player off the board when she was selected by the defending WNBA champion, Las Vegas Aces. Fair becomes the first player from Syracuse selected in the WNBA Draft since former standouts Brittney Sykes and Alexis Peterson were taken in 2017. After transferring from Buffalo for her final two seasons, Fair ranks third on the NCAA Division I scoring list with 3,403 career points. One of just four players in the ACC to average more than 20 points per game (22.3), Fair posted 22 games with 20 points or more this season, including a career-high 38 points against Boston College on Feb. 4.

Eight picks later, Elizabeth Kitley of Virginia Tech was taken by the Aces with the final pick of the second round. Kitley becomes the fourth Hokie to be drafted in the last three seasons, which leads the ACC in that span. A three-time ACC Player of the Year, Kitley led the ACC in scoring (22.8) and rebounding (11.4) while shooting 55.6 percent from field. In a Dec. 21 win over William & Mary, Kitley tallied her 1,300th rebound becoming the ACC’s all-time leading rebounder and finished her career with 1,506 boards.

Louisville’s Kiki Jefferson was picked in the third round by the Minnesota Lynx, as she becomes the first Cardinal selected in the WNBA Draft since Emily Engstler and Kianna Smith were picked in 2022. Transferring from James Madison for her final collegiate season, Jefferson led Louisville at 12.3 points per game and shot 46.6 percent from the field. Against ACC competition, the guard averaged 13.6 points per game and was one of only two players to shoot 90 percent or better from the free throw line (90.1).

Last season, 16 former ACC standouts participated in the 2023 WNBA Playoffs, the most among all conferences. Three players took part in the WNBA Finals, as Duke’s Chelsea Gray and Notre Dame’s Jackie Young helped the Aces to the title.

The 2024 WNBA season gets underway on May 14.
