CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse swept the final 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball weekly awards as Madelyn Lopez was named Player of the Week and Lindsey Hendrix was tabbed Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week.
Lopez batted .500 on the week as Syracuse went 3-1, including two wins against No. 14 Florida State. The sophomore outfielder went 5-for-10 with five runs scored and a .583 on-base percentage against the Seminoles, including 2-for-3 with three runs scored in Syracuse's 13-5 run-rule victory on Saturday. The Orange earned their third and fourth wins over Florida State in program history, scoring the most runs against a ranked opponent for the first time since March 2010. The eight-run second inning was the most runs scored in a frame against an ACC opponent since March 16, 2018, when the Orange plated nine runs in the fifth inning at Virginia.
Hendrix earned her third and fourth top-15 victory in the last week, beating No. 14 Florida State twice to help Syracuse clinch a berth in the ACC Tournament. The Orlando, Florida, native threw a pair of complete games, striking out seven batters and allowing just two earned runs across her 12 innings of work for a 1.17 ERA.
Lopez and Hendrix will help lead the Orange in their first game in the 2024 ACC Softball Championship as No. 8-seeded Syracuse takes on No. 9-seeded Boston College on Wednesday, May 8. First pitch on ACC Network is set for 1 p.m.
Duke is ranked No. 5 in the nation in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll. Florida State is No. 13, followed by Virginia Tech at No. 15 and Clemson at No. 23. Virginia is receiving votes.
