CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference had 10 players named to the 2024 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, the Tyler Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler announced on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also meets one or more of the following criteria:
- born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School
- and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or is currently playing at a Texas Division I four-year college.
Representing the ACC on the watch list were quarterbacks Chandler Rogers of California, Cade Klubnik of Clemson, Haynes King of Georgia Tech, Cam Ward of Miami, Nate Yarnell of Pitt, Preston Stone of SMU and Kyron Drones of Virginia Tech, as well as offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers of Florida State, center J’Onre Reed of Syracuse and running back Damien Martinez of Miami.
The watch list will be narrowed down to 16 semifinalists in November and then to five finalists in December. The finalists will be brought to Tyler, Texas, for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet in January.

- Since 2018, the ACC has had at least one quarterback drafted in the first round in five different drafts — the only conference to do that.
- The ACC’s non-conference schedule continues to be the most challenging in the country.

- Six ACC head coaches were named to the 2024 Dodd Trophy Preseason Watch List, as announced by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and the Peach Bowl, no other conference had more.
- Two of the three active coaches to win a national title reside in the ACC - Dabo Swinney led Clemson to national titles in 2016 and 2018. North Carolina’s Mack Brown won a national title at Texas in 2005.
- The 20th ACC Football Championship Game will kick off in primetime at 8 p.m. ET on ABC on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
About the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award
The award is named in honor of Earl Campbell, who graduated from John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas, before playing at Texas. In his senior season, Campbell led the nation with 1,744 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, becoming Texas’ first Heisman Trophy winner. He was drafted by the Houston Oilers, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1978 and went on to lead the NFL in rushing three times. Campbell earned NFL MVP in 1979 and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991.
