UNC’s Faasse Named 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy Winner

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (theACC.com) – After guiding North Carolina to its first national championship since 2012 and leading the country in goals, junior Kate Faasse has been named the winner of the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy, announced Friday by the Missouri Athletic Club.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, has been awarded annually since 1967. Faasse becomes the eighth different Tar Heel and 10th overall to earn the Hermann Trophy, as the junior brings home UNC’s first Hermann Trophy since Crystal Dunn in 2012. A student-athlete from the Atlantic Coast Conference has won the Hermann Trophy for five straight years, while current membership has claimed the trophy every year since 2017. Overall, ACC student-athletes have won 17 Hermann Trophies, while the current membership has won 27 awards.

Faasse closed the season as the nation’s leading scorer with 20 goals, as she helped North Carolina to its 23rd national championship. The Phoenix, Arizona, native capped the year with six goals over seven postseason matches, including the game-winning overtime golden goal against Penn State to send the Tar Heels to their 32nd Women’s College Cup. An All-ACC First-Team selection, Faasse totaled five multi-goal matches, including three against conference opponents.

All three semifinals for the Hermann Trophy hailed from the ACC, as Faasse was joined in St. Louis with Duke’s Maggie Graham and Wake Forest’s Caiya Hanks. It marked the second time in three seasons all three finalists for the Hermann Trophy were from the ACC. In 2022, Duke’s Michelle Cooper, Florida State’s Jenna Nighswonger and Notre Dame’s Korbin Albert were named semifinalists, with Cooper becoming the first Blue Devil to take home the Herman Trophy. Of the nine players named finalists for the Hermann Trophy in the last three years, seven have been from the ACC.
