This Week in ACC Women’s Soccer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Heading into the penultimate weekend of the regular season, Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer returns on Thursday, October 16, kicking off a stretch of 10 league matchups through Sunday, October 19.

Of the 10 contests this week, seven will feature at least one ranked team, beginning with a top-25 showdown on Thursday when No. 2 Stanford visits No. 7 Florida State at 7 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra. The Cardinal enter the week on a five-match winning streak, capped off by a 2-1 win over top-ranked Virginia last Sunday. On the opposite side, the Seminoles look to bounce back following a 4-2 road setback at No. 2 Notre Dame last Thursday.

ACC Network will feature a pair of matches this week, beginning on Thursday when No. 17 Wake Forest heads to Clemson for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. On Sunday, Stanford will continue its Florida road trip by visiting Miami at noon ET.

Noting ACC Women’s Soccer
• A nation-best seven ACC teams are ranked in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, including the top three spots: Notre Dame (No. 1), Stanford (No. 2), Virginia (No. 3), Florida State (No. 7), Duke (No. 9), Wake Forest (No. 17) and North Carolina (No. 23). California and Louisville are receiving votes.
• Notre Dame is the fifth different ACC team to be ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this season, joining North Carolina, Duke, Stanford and Virginia.
• A nation-best eight ACC teams are in the top 25 of the latest RPI, including five in the top 10: Notre Dame (No. 1), Virginia (No. 2), Stanford (No. 7), Florida State (No. 8), Duke (No. 10), Louisville (No. 13), North Carolina (No. 14) and Wake Forest (No. 20).
• ACC teams finished the non-conference portion of the regular season with 81 victories, tied for the most among all conferences.
• ACC teams went 15-9-7 (.597) against peer Power Four opponents and finished 5-2-5 (.625) against ranked teams.
• Stanford senior forward Jasmine Aikey has been named the ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while California senior goalkeeper Teagan Wy was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played October 6-12.
• A nation-best 15 players from the ACC were named to the Midseason Hermann Trophy Watch List.
• Four ACC teams are in the top 10 nationally in total goals: Stanford (No. 1 – 51), Notre Dame (No. 3 – 46), Louisville (No. 4 – 44) and North Carolina (No. 9 – 37). In addition, six ACC teams rank in the top 10 in scoring offense.
• Three ACC players are in the top five in total goals: Izzy Engle (Notre Dame) ranks third with 13 goals, while Jasmine Aikey (Stanford) and Olivia Thomas (North Carolina) are tied for fifth with 11.
• Virginia’s Lia Godfrey has played in 98 matches, the most among all active Division I players.
• The 38th annual Ally ACC Women's Soccer Tournament is set for Sunday, November 2, with first-round matchups on campus sites before moving to First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, for the semifinals and final.
