CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference today announced the hiring of Anthony Macri as its first Chief Revenue Officer, furthering the Conference’s commitment to solidifying its place among the elite in an ever-changing landscape.
“Anthony joins our team with nearly two decades of dynamic experience and a rare blend of competitive drive, strategic vision and longstanding relationships,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “With his proven track record of developing high-performing teams for some of the biggest names in sports, we’re confident that Anthony’s leadership will unlock new revenue opportunities as the ACC expands its national presence.”
In this newly created role, Macri will be tasked with fostering a revenue-centric mindset across the conference office and member institutions, encouraging the exploration of new lines of business and modernized go-to-market strategies. Additionally, he will work closely to develop institutional collaboration, further business development and partnerships, and maximize media, content and fan monetization. He will report directly to the Commissioner and serve on the ACC’s executive staff, contributing to the strategic vision of the Conference.
“I am honored to join the ACC as its first Chief Revenue Officer at such a pivotal moment for college sports,” stated Macri. “This is a tremendous opportunity to work with Commissioner Phillips, the leadership team, and all 18 member institutions as we strengthen partnerships, create new opportunities, and build lasting value for the conference. I eagerly await getting started and working to ensure the ACC continues to thrive in this new era.”
Most recently, Macri served as Head of Commercial in the United States for BWT Alpine Formula One Team, joining as part of a private equity investment from Otro Capital that included celebrity investors such as Patrick Mahomes, Rory McIlroy, and Ryan Reynolds. At Alpine, he built the team’s commercial presence in the U.S., accelerated sponsorship growth, and implemented a data-driven strategy to optimize category targeting and track partner performance. He also brokered a multi-year global partnership with viagogo (also known as StubHub), launching Formula One’s first direct-to-fan ticketing model.
Prior to his time in Formula One, Macri spent a decade with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he served as Vice President of Partnerships and generated more than $265 million in contractual revenue across sponsorship, media, and premium hospitality. During his tenure, the Grizzlies achieved seven record-breaking seasons of revenue growth, increasing average deal size by 53% and term length by 47%, while replacing underperforming partnerships with multi-year, high-efficiency agreements that outperformed league benchmarks.
Earlier in his career, Macri served as CEO and Commissioner of the ASEAN Basketball League, an eight-team professional league spanning six countries, where he restructured its multinational television contract and redesigned its governance model through a new constitution, transitioning the league toward a franchise-based structure. He began his sports business career with IMG Basketball Academy and the Pro Training Center, while also consulting for a range of clubs, leagues, and youth academies.
A graduate of Loyola University Maryland, Macri earned his master’s degree from Fordham University. He and his wife, Megan, have two daughters, Ally and Nicki.
