CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – As five programs around the Atlantic Coast Conference prepare for the 2025 NCAA Field Hockey Championship, the conference will once again look to uphold its longstanding legacy of success. The ACC has claimed 16 of the past 23 national championships.
The 2025 edition of the NCAA Tournament marks the 12th time in 13 seasons in which at least four ACC teams earned postseason bids. The ACC’s five selections this season are the most of any conference.
For the fourth consecutive season, North Carolina earned the No. 1 overall seed and will host the Chapel Hill Regional, which began on Wednesday, November 12. The Tar Heels will square off with Saint Joseph’s, which won its Opening Round contest over Drexel, on Friday, November 14, beginning at noon ET on ESPN+. North Carolina looks to avenge a loss to the Hawks in the 2024 National Semifinals.
Virginia earned the No. 4 national seed and will host the Charlottesville Regional. This will be the seventh time that the Cavaliers have hosted First and Second Round matches, most recently in 2019. Virginia will square off with Miami (Ohio) on Friday at noon ET, with the match streaming on ESPN+. It is the Cavaliers’ 29th trip to the NCAA Championship, and their ninth in the last 10 years.
Duke will begin its postseason run in the Chapel Hill Regional as well, squaring off with Iowa. The Blue Devils and Hawks last met in the NCAA Tournament in 2019. The Blue Devils’ First Round contest will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET on Friday and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Wake Forest will be making its 19th appearance in the NCAA Field Hockey Championship when it takes on UConn in the First Round on Friday at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+. The Demon Deacons and Huskies will meet in the Cambridge Regional. Wake Forest looks to build on its ACC regular-season co-championship as it looks to claim its first national championship since 2004.
Syracuse will travel to the Princeton Regional for its First-Round match against Liberty. The Orange and Flames met in the NCAA Tournament First Round two seasons ago. with Syracuse winning, 2-1, in overtime. Syracuse’s 19th NCAA Tournament run in program history will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET on Friday, airing on ESPN+.
Second Round matches will take place on Sunday, November 16, beginning at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Noting ACC Field Hockey
- The ACC’s record number of all-time NCAA Field Hockey Championships stands at 23, including 16 of the last 23.
- After earning five bids in 2025, ACC teams have earned at least four NCAA bids in 12 of the last 13 seasons.
- The ACC has placed at least one team in the NCAA title game in 23 of the last 26 NCAA Championships – and 31 times in the last 35 years.
- In the ACC’s first 45 years as an NCAA Field Hockey conference, league teams have accounted for half of the total appearances in the national title game (44 of 88).
- North Carolina claimed its ninth straight ACC Championship and 10th in the last 11 tournaments this year. The Tar Heels have now captured 28 of the 43 ACC titles all-time.
- For the fourth year in a row and the seventh time in the past eight years, North Carolina is the top overall seed in the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament. The Tar Heels look to claim their sixth national championship in eight seasons and second under head coach Erin Matson.
- Duke will host the national semifinals on Friday, November 21, and the championship final on Sunday, November 23, at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. All opening, first, second and semifinal round matches will be available on ESPN+, and the championship game will be broadcast at 1p.m. ET on ESPNU.
