ACC Football Notes
Multiple Teams Ranked in the Top 25
- The ACC had three teams ranked in the 2025 College Football Playoff rankings (Nov. 18).
- Miami (No. 13), Georgia Tech (No. 16) and Virginia (No. 19).
- No. 13 Miami – The Hurricanes are on the rise, climbing two spots from No. 15 after another dominant double-digit victory. Since the first rankings on November 4, Miami has surged five spots, showing no signs of slowing down.
- No. 16 Georgia Tech – The Yellow Jackets held steady at No. 16, fueled by a resilient comeback from a double-digit deficit to score a Power 4 and ACC road win at Boston College, keeping their championship hopes alive.
- No. 19 Virginia – The Cavaliers remain in the top 20 at No. 19 after a commanding road win at Duke, inching closer to clinching a spot in the 2025 ACC Football Championship Game.
- The ACC had three teams in both the AP Top 25 Poll and the Coaches Poll:
- Miami (No. 14/15), Georgia Tech (No. 15/12) and Virginia (No. 19/19).
- SMU, Louisville and Pitt all received votes in both polls.
ACC is the Deepest Power 4 Conference
- The ACC has proven it is the deepest Power 4 conference this season:
- 4 teams at 1 loss or fewer in conference play, tied for the second-most among all FBS conferences.
- 7 conference games have gone into overtime, the most by any conference since 2000.
- Over 40 percent (41.1%) of the ACC’s conference games have been decided by a one-score final margin.
- Through the first 12 weeks, ACC road teams have posted a 30-26 record in conference contests.
- The ACC has the strongest non-conference strength of schedule among all Power 4 conferences:
- Scheduled to play 26 total P4 and Notre Dame non-conference games, the most among all FBS conferences.
- Played 20 non-conference games versus P4 teams and Notre Dame to date, the most of any conference: ACC - 20; Big 12 - 14; SEC - 14; Big Ten - 12.
- 6 games remaining against Power 4 teams, 2 more than the other three P4 conferences combined.
- The ACC has won plenty of high-profile games this year:
- 6 different ACC teams have defeated an AP Top 10 opponent this season.
- 9 different ACC teams have defeated a Top 15 opponent this year.
- 11 different ACC teams have defeated an AP Top 25 opponent this season.
Race to Charlotte for the 2025 ACC Football Championship Game
- Entering the weekend, six teams remain in contention for Charlotte: Georgia Tech (6–1), Virginia (6–1), SMU (5–1), Pitt (5–1), Miami (4–2) and Duke (4–2).
- Georgia Tech and Virginia are the only programs with a chance to clinch a championship game berth this week, with the Yellow Jackets controlling their own destiny.
- Georgia Tech will earn its place with a win over Pitt on Saturday night in Atlanta.
- Virginia, idle in Week 13, can clinch its spot only if a trio of results fall its way: Georgia Tech defeats Pitt, Louisville defeats SMU and North Carolina defeats Duke.
- Even in the event of a Virginia loss in Week 14, the Cavaliers would be locked into no worse than a 6–2 record, creating a potential three-team tie with SMU and the winner of Miami/Pitt. Virginia holds the tiebreaker advantage in that scenario thanks to a better winning percentage against common opponents, Louisville and Stanford (2–0), giving the Cavaliers the edge over SMU, Pitt and Miami (each 1–1).
Eight ACC Teams Already Set to Go Bowling
- The ACC already has eight teams eligible for postseason play with at least six wins.
- Georgia Tech was the first to secure a bowl berth, defeating Virginia Tech 35-20 on October 11 (Week 7).
- Virginia followed, earning eligibility with a 22-20 win over Washington State on October 18 (Week 8).
- In Week 9 (Oct. 25), Pitt (53-34 vs. NC State), Miami (42-7 vs. Stanford), and Louisville (38-24 vs. Boston College) all reached six wins.
- Week 10 (Nov. 1) saw SMU become the sixth team eligible after an overtime win over then-No. 10 Miami, 26-20.
- In Week 11 (Nov. 8), California upset No. 15 Louisville 26-20 (OT), and Wake Forest defeated No. 14 Virginia 16-9, both clinching bowl eligibility with Top-15 victories.

- Week 13 will once again feature two games for the ESPN/ACCN Enhanced Instant Replay Broadcast with the ACC Football Friday Night Game between Florida State and NC State at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN’s Saturday Night contest between Pitt and Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
