CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina graduate attack Ashley Humphrey earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Boston College junior defender Shea Baker and North Carolina junior defender Brooklyn Walker-Welch shared ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from February 10-16.
Humphrey paced No. 3 North Carolina’s offense in its big 14-9 win at No. 5 Florida on Saturday. The attacker finished with a game-leading nine points behind three goals and a game-high six assists. Her nine points are the most she has recorded as a Tar Heel while her six assists matched her best while at UNC.
Baker was the catalyst in helping the defense limit No. 2 Northwestern to just nine goals in Boston College’s 13-9 triumph on Saturday, snapping the Wildcats’ 47-game home win streak in the national championship game rematch. The native of Ithaca, New York, tallied two caused turnovers, three draw controls and two ground balls, while her first goal of the season helped push the final margin to four goals, giving BC its first win in Evanston since 2019. It marked the first time since 2023 the Wildcats were held to fewer than 10 goals.
Walker-Welch was a force on both ends of the field in North Carolina’s 14-9 road win at No. 5 Florida on Saturday. A native of Courtice, Ontario, Walker-Welch finished the game with three caused turnovers and two ground balls as well as one goal (on one shot). Her goal, which was in the first quarter, was the second of her career. She anchored UNC’s defense, which did not concede more than three goals per quarter and did not allow more than a two-goal run by the Gators.
Eight ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest IWLCA poll, including four in the top 10, headlined by Boston College at No. 1 and North Carolina at No. 2. Following its top-10 win at Maryland last Saturday, Syracuse climbed to No. 4 this week, and the Orange are followed in the poll by Virginia (7), Notre Dame (11), Stanford (14), Clemson (19) and Duke (21). The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
Conference play begins on Saturday, February 22, with six games scheduled. ACC Network’s 2025 broadcast schedule starts at noon ET on Saturday, with No. 14 Stanford visiting No. 7 Virginia. The Saturday slate also is highlighted by a top-five clash between No. 2 North Carolina and No. 4 Syracuse at 11 a.m. ET in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
