CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – California sophomore outfielder Jacob French was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while North Carolina senior right-handed pitcher Aidan Haugh was tabbed the ACC Pitcher of the Week for games played March 17-23. French is Cal’s first-ever ACC Baseball Player of the Week.
 
French reached base safely in each of his first nine plate appearances (8-for-8 with a hit-by-pitch) in Cal's historic three-game sweep at No. 14 Stanford. Led by French, Cal swept Stanford for the first time since 1992. French finished the three-game series with a .769 batting average (10-for-13), eight runs scored, two doubles, three triples, four RBI, one hit by pitch, a 1.385 slugging percentage and a .786 on-base percentage, while reaching base in 11 of his 14 plate appearances. The outfielder also finished the week with a .647 batting average (11-for-17), nine runs scored, two doubles, three triples, five RBI, one hit by pitch, a 1.118 slugging percentage and a .632 on-base mark. He had back-to-back career-high-tying four-hit games in the first two contests against Stanford and a pair of hits both on Tuesday, March 18, against Saint Mary's and Sunday, March 23, in the series finale against Stanford.
 
Haugh turned in his best performance of the season in North Carolina's series-securing, run-rule win on Sunday. The right-hander held a no-hitter into the seventh inning, when a Boston College baserunner was struck with a batted ball. By rule, the batter is awarded a base hit and the runner is ruled out. Despite losing the no-hitter, Haugh spun a 7.0 inning complete game shutout, the first of his career, while striking out 11 and having issued just one walk. The 7.0 innings of work also marked a career-high for the Zebulon, North Carolina, native.
