This Week in ACC Baseball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Another full weekend of Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball is upon us as the ACC begins its fourth weekend of conference play. League action will kick off on Thursday, March 27, as No. 20 Stanford heads to Charlottesville, Virginia, for a nationally televised contest against Virginia (7 p.m. ET, ACC Network). The Cardinal and Cavaliers will also be featured on Saturday, March 29, as the two teams will meet on ESPN2, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. ET.
 
Beginning with the Stanford and Virginia contest on Thursday night, ACC Network will carry four games throughout the weekend. On Friday, March 28, ACC Network will televise the series opener between NC State and Duke with first pitch being thrown at 8 p.m. ET. Sunday, March 29, will feature a pair of nationally televised affairs, starting with California at No. 18 Louisville at noon ET. The weekend will wrap up its television slate at 5 p.m. ET with Virginia Tech’s series finale against No. 16 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
 
Fourth-ranked Florida State will travel to South Bend, Indiana, for a three-game set, beginning on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET. Link Jarrett, head coach of Florida State, led the Fighting Irish for three seasons (2019-22), which included a trip to the Men’s College World Series in 2022.
 
Clemson, who enters the week ranked sixth nationally, will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for a three-game series against No. 25 Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are ranked in the D1Baseball poll for the first time since May of 2022 and have boasted a red-hot offense this season. The Yellow Jackets have won 15 of their last 17 contests, scoring 97 runs over their last eight games and averaging 12.13 runs per game throughout the stretch. Clemson concluded a 16-game homestand on Wednesday and will be playing away from Doug Kingsmore Stadium for the first time since Tuesday, March 4.
 
Around the Horn
  • Wake Forest’s Logan Lunceford leads the ACC and ranks third nationally in strikeouts-per-nine innings, averaging 15.75 punchouts. Lunceford is joined by Clemson’s Aidan Knaak (6th, 15.35) and Louisville’s Patrick Forbes (7th, 15.10) in the top-10 nationally.
  • Clemson’s Lucas Mahlstedt leads the country with eight saves this season.
  • With seven wins on the mound this season, Georgia Tech’s Mason Patel leads the country in victories.
  • Entering the week, Virginia Tech’s Sam Tackett, Wake Forest’s Kade Lewis and Florida State’s Alex Lodise all ranked in the top-10 nationally in batting average. Lodise also ranks second nationally in hits per game, averaging 1.91.
  • Duke became the first  team to sweep Virginia in Charlottesville since 2021, while picking up its first sweep of the Cavaliers since 1998.
  • California swept rival Stanford for the first time since 1992, scoring 10.67 runs per game in the series. Cal will once again face a ranked opponent this weekend as it heads to No. 18 Louisville.
  • Miami will play its fourth ranked series in a five-week stretch when it travels to No. 21 North Carolina this weekend. The Hurricanes have also played series against ranked Florida, Florida State and Wake Forest squads recently.
