CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – After a successful 2024 season, the Atlantic Coast Conference has entered into a three-year agreement to continue using TrackMan technology for baseball games during the 2025 season and beyond to help train and educate ACC umpires.
TrackMan uses patented Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT) to deliver incredible results from a single, small system, from a backfield to the largest stadiums in the world. The TrackMan stadium system is used by all 16 ACC baseball programs, as well as all 30 Major League Baseball teams, top amateur organizations, prominent collegiate summer leagues, and is embedded in more than 500 stadiums around the world. The ACC will use data delivered by TrackMan to monitor each pitch of every game for accuracy by conference umpires and will use the resulting information to train, educate, and improve performance.
Additionally, with the approval of the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel, ACC teams will be permitted to use league-issued iPads enabled with TrackMan technology to access scouting and analytic information throughout conference games this season. While teams will not be able to access live strike zone data throughout the game, teams will be able to view in-depth scouting and analytic reports. Teams will also have access to Apple Notes, allowing for note taking or manual pitch tracking, and Apple Files, which will allow teams to download additional PDF documents for access to analytics throughout the game.
“TrackMan is excited to enter a multi-year partnership with the ACC to help evaluate and train the umpires. In the first year of its existence, Trackman is honored to be the tracking provider of choice to power the in-game data dashboard and deliver live analytic data in the dugout to the coaches,” stated James Snikeris, Senior Manager of Baseball & Softball for Trackman. “This partnership illustrates the commitment of Trackman and the ACC to improve the experience for the student-athletes, coaches, and fans”
“As the premier baseball conference in the nation, we are excited to be on the cutting edge of technology use in the sport of Baseball to provide the best experience for our student-athletes and coaches,” said Jessica Rippey, ACC Senior Associate Commissioner – Championships and SWA. “By extending our partnership with TrackMan, we are able to continue providing our umpires with the best training and development tools. Through our partnership with Apple and the utilization of the NCAA’s experimental playing rule, we are thrilled to be able to provide the best technology and innovation to our programs, which positively impacts the game experience for all involved.”
The technology will be used for all conference baseball games, which begin on Friday, March 7, and the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship.
