North Carolina’s Gallaher, Florida State’s Arnold Tabbed ACC Baseball Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina sophomore third baseman Gavin Gallaher was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Florida State junior left-handed pitcher Jamie Arnold was tabbed the ACC Pitcher of the Week for games played April 7-13.

Gallaher was instrumental in powering the Tar Heels to a 4-0 week that included a sweep of Wake Forest with two run-rule victories along the way. The North Carolina third baseman clobbered four home runs in the Tar Heels’ four games last week, while also hitting .600 (9-for-15) with 11 RBIs and 7 runs scored. He registered three hits in each of the Tar Heels’ first three games of the week. In a midweek contest at Elon on Tuesday, April 8, the Apex, North Carolina, native, recorded his second multi-home run game of his career. Gallaher becomes the second Tar Heel to be named ACC Player of the Week this season, joining Hunter Stokely on March 3.

Arnold held No. 25 Virginia Tech to just one run on four hits in a career-high-tying 7.0 innings of action. The Florida State left-hander struck out nine and walked just two in the Seminoles’ 12-1 win on Saturday, April 12. He threw 98 pitches against the top-25 foe on the road to lead Florida State to a doubleheader sweep and series-clinching win. Arnold becomes the second Seminole to be named ACC Pitcher of the Week this season after left-handed pitcher Joey Volini did so on March 31.
