CLEMSON, S.C. (theACC.com) – Winning all five Grand Finals, Stanford tallied 132 points and claimed its first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship Saturday, May 17, at Lake Hartwell.
Setting Championship records in every race, the Cardinal become the first team since Virginia at the 2021 ACC Championship to sweep all five events. Stanford’s Varsity Four became the first boat in Championship history to break seven minutes (6:53.204), while the Stanford Varsity Eight was the first boat to break six minutes (5:58.627). Following the Championship, the Cardinal V8 was named ACC Crew of the Year.
Virginia captured second place in the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight to finish as the runner-up for the second consecutive season with 106 points. Syracuse’s second-place finish in the Varsity Four helped propel the Orange to third in the team standings with 104 points, while California, which took second in the Second Varsity Four, finished fourth with 102 points.
Duke (89 points) finished fifth, North Carolina (68) placed sixth and Clemson (67) claimed seventh. SMU and Notre Dame tied for eighth place, with the Mustangs winning the tiebreaker based on a higher score in the NCAA-scoring boats (44-36). Louisville (10th – 39 points), Miami (11th – 34 points) and Boston College (12th – 17 points) rounded out the field.
In addition to the Stanford V8 winning Crew of the Year, the Cardinal swept the yearly awards. Derek Byrnes was named ACC Coach of the Year and V8 rower Sarah Marriott earned ACC Newcomer of the Year honors.
With the victory, Stanford claims the ACC’s automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Championship. Other teams will await the NCAA Selections announcement on Tuesday, May 20, at 5 p.m. ET to learn whether their seasons will continue.
